Weekend blaze deemed arson by investigators

The Dauphin Fire Department (DFD) responded to a fire early Saturday morning that is now being called arson.
Shortly after 5:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a report of trees on fire on First Street NE. While en route, additional callers to E911 reported it was not trees on fire, but rather a house.
The first caller spotted the fire from the upper levels of Parkview Lodge and the flames appeared to be in the trees in front of the home.
Upon arrival, heavy black smoke was coming from the main floor. The fire had burned through the roofline and flames were coming from the upper eaves of the two-story home.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the exterior flames and made entry to the building to conduct a search. No one was located inside and neighbours reported that the house had been vacated by the tenents earlier this month.
The fire had extended from the main floor to the second and into the attic space. Crews remained on scene for several hours to assist with the investigation conducted by the DFD and RCMP Parkland Detachment.
The fire was suspicious in nature and has been deemed as arson.
If anyone has any information related to this incident, they are asked to contact the RCMP at 204-622-5020.
