Coffey on national rugby team's radar

A former Dauphin Clipper is one step closer to playing for Canada’s national women’s rugby team.
Monique Coffey, a student athlete at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S., was named to the non-traveling reserve roster for Team Canada’s U20 women’s squad which will compete at the Tri Nations Cup, later this month in Nova Scotia.
Coffey explained Canada’s U20 coach is also the head coach of the Nova Scotia Keltics senior women’s team.
“So I attended a lot of their practices and, while I was there, the coach noticed my talent,” she said.
The coach had been following Coffey and other Keltic players and was scouting players at the recent Canadian Regional Championships (CRC) in Saskatoon, Sask.
“And at the CRC’s he chose the best players in the country to be part of his under-20 Canada team,” Coffey added.
