Whirlpool Lake opens, no evidence of zebra mussels

Whirlpool Lake is once again open for public use.
The popular Riding Mountain National Park (RMNP) destination was closed to the public in the fall of 2017 after water samples taken from the lake tested positive for potential environmental DNA (eDNA) evidence of zebra mussels.
The closure was meant to ensure protection of RMNP from invasive zebra mussels, and included a prohibition of all watercraft on Whirlpool Lake.
Diligent monitoring of the lake has taken place over the last year with all the test results coming back negative for the presence of zebra mussels (eDNA, veligers, mussels).
