Fort Dauphin plans birthday bash

Fort Dauphin Museum may need a fire extinguisher, as they celebrate Peter Fidlers 250th birthday, Aug. 16.
Theresa Deyholos, executive director and curator announced cake and refreshments will be served at the free event in Fort Dauphin Museum from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“Peter Fidler was an outstanding surveyor, cartographer and trader. And he was an extraordinary gardener,” she said, noting Fidler travelled to many different forts around Canada and was known for having different seeds in his pocket, leaving little gardens wherever he lived.
In honour of his 250th year, Deyholos said, the museum has expanded the Peter Fidler exhibit, covering over 30 years of his employment with the Hudson’s Bay Company.
