RM supports broadband proposal

The Rural Municipality of Dauphin has thrown its support behind Community Futures Parkland and Rionet in their application to the federal government’s Universal Broadband Fund.
At its regular meeting, Jan. 12, RM council passed a resolution to support the application and request that the project costs and expected municipal contribution be provided prior to providing financial commitment and approval.
“We are applying for a federal government grant which would cover 75 to 90 per cent of the cost of the project,” said Reeve Ron Ryz, adding they were on a short timeline, having heard about the grant in December and the application deadline was Jan. 15.
“So this first application is for the rapid response stream. What it’s going to do is extend the fiber line throughout the RM. We’re not going to cover the whole RM, but this is just the first stage,” Ryz said, adding it will increase the LTE internet access.
