Clippers Return To The Gridiron, Friday

It may be a little later than usual, but the Rural Manitoba Football League is set to kickoff its season later this week.

The eight teams comprising the league this year have been split into two divisions. The Dauphin Clippers, Parkwest Outlaws, Swan Valley Tigers and Moosomin Generals make up the Parkland Division, while the Interlake Thunder, Virden Bears, Neepawa Tigers and Southwest Sabres are in the Prairieland Division.

Teams will play their divisional opponents twice each, one at home and one away.

For the Clippers, the season begins, Friday when they play host to Parkwest at 4:30 p.m.

The team began practicing in mid-August, a little later than normal, according to general manager Cam Bennet.

“We were waiting for the start of school and the return to play protocol. So we got started with practice later, but our first game is later, as well,” he said, noting the Clippers would already have played two games in a normal year.
