Uncertain future for MVSD at public forum

As the board for Mountain View School Division (MVSD) prepared for its 2020-21 budget with a public forum, Nov. 18, board chair Leifa Misko noted the division is facing an uncertain future.
Funding for education for the current 2019-20 school year of $6.6 million, or an increase of approximately 0.4 per cent, she said, did not keep up with the rate of inflation and resulted in a decrease in funding for most divisions across the province.
“This decrease, along with restrictions to the tax levy increases and cap on administrative costs, limited school division’s abilities to implement effective changes,” Misko said.
“It lead to cuts, especially in the supplies and materials areas, in order to reach a balanced budget.”
