Comeback Helps Clippers Survive A Preseason Viking Raid

It was only an exhibition game, but the Dauphin Clippers hockey team should gain a lot of confidence from their preseason contest with the Vincent Massey Vikings.

After the Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the first period, the Clippers clawed back to score a 4-3 overtime victory, Saturday at Credit Union Place.

Austyn Roos put the Clippers on the board in the second period and William Miner made it a one-goal game early in the third.

Tyron Sweetman then tied the game with 2:54 left in regulation and Parker Boguski netted the winner, just 24 seconds into overtime.

Cody Coombs and Owen Chubka shared goaltending duties, with Chubka picking up the win.

The Clippers only played one game last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it has been a while since the team has been on the ice for a game and it showed in their play in the first period.

“It’s been a long time since all these guys have played a hockey game. We have a lot of guys here that this is their first game in a year, year-and-a-half and last year we only got one game,” said Clippers head coach Josh Yaschyshyn.
