City Hires New Economic Development Manager

Dauphin has a new economic development manager.

Martijn van Luijn was hired last week to take over the role which has been vacant since Brian Baker was dismissed by the City earlier this year.

“Martijn is a really excellent, community-minded person. He has the education and the skill set to really contribute to the City of Dauphin,” city manager Sharla Griffiths said.

Griffiths said six applications were received as part of the competition and van Luijn was the top candidate for the job.

“The City is really looking forward to having him join our team and he has indicated he is ready to hit the ground running. That is exactly what we are looking for,” Griffiths said.

Griffiths said there are a few files sitting idle in the economic development department, the most important of which is the affordable housing grant program. She expects van Luijn will focus considerable effort on advancing that initiative.

“Another thing will be getting into the community and seeing how our businesses are doing,” Griffiths said. van Luijn begins his tenure with the City, Dec. 1.
